Sturgis is an amazing destination for many types of outdoor recreation. The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the best known reason to visit Sturgis and the Black Hills for many, yet the annual Rally is only the tip of the iceberg of what Sturgis has to offer. The same roads that are a joy to ride on a motorcycle are also incredible on a road bike.
When it comes to cycling, Sturgis is an equal to many towns known as mountain biking destinations. South Dakota’s Centennial Trail, part of the Tatanka Mountain Bike Race, begins just north of Sturgis near Bear Butte and passes through the city as well as through the Fort Meade Recreation Area, located between Sturgis and nearby Fort Meade. This Recreation Area is federal land managed for recreation and includes dozens of miles of trails, a campground, and a horse camp.
Sturgis connects to the motorized trail network on the Black Hills National Forest, has nearby outdoor shooting ranges, a drag strip, and a plethora of other outdoor recreation options.
